How to play

Each skipper jumps in on their birthday month. Keep going until a mistake is made. If everyone is in, turn the rope faster and faster until there is a mistake.

Where this rhyme comes from

Earliest record: by 1916
Sung in: UK (London)

Douglas recorded a chant beginning 'All in together' (with 'all sorts of' or 'frosty' weather) in 1916 and marked it 'an old one'. Calling out birth months for each skipper to run in is a later, widespread addition.

Sources: Norman Douglas, London Street Games (1916), p.88.
