Skipping Scheme of Work: EYFS to Year 6
Four units of six interactive lessons, from first jumps in Reception to tricks, teams and Double Dutch in Year 6, built around the skip-hop Skipping Awards.
Every lesson runs from the board, with a lesson timer, trainers for long rope and Double Dutch and a challenge counter. Every skill links to its coaching page, every lesson shows which Skipping Award it works towards, and each unit ends with an award day that opens the assessment pages and prints certificates.
The units and their awards
The awards are loosely matched to year groups, but children move on whenever they’re ready. After Black come the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards.
Teaching Reception, Year 1 or Year 2, or pupils with SEND who are struggling to skip? Start with Lee’s tips for pupils who are struggling to skip: face-to-face partner skipping, step by step.
Early Years
Ready, Steady, Jump!
Reception · 6 × 20–30 min

Key Stage 1
Skipping Foundations
Years 1 and 2 · 6 × 40–45 min
Six lessons that take Year 1 and Year 2 pupils from their first turn of the rope to skipping on their own and running through a long rope, working towards the Orange and Green Awards.
Lower Key Stage 2
Skills and Tricks
Years 3 and 4 · 6 × 45–60 min
Six lessons that turn Year 3 and Year 4 skippers into confident performers: beginner tricks, partner skipping, the Figure of Eight and a first routine, working towards the Blue and Purple Awards.
Upper Key Stage 2
Tricks, Teams and Double Dutch
Years 5 and 6 · 6 × 45–60 min
Six lessons that stretch Year 5 and Year 6 skippers: side swings, crossovers and turns, double unders, team skills, Double Dutch and a led routine, working towards the Red and Black Awards and on to Bronze.
From schools that worked with skip-hop
We had a fantastic day on the 30th April. I filmed the floor show and photographed the skills, so we are working away on them. We could really see the difference in how the children approached their second workshop. They loved it and learned so much.
Your coach was here last Thursday and the workshops went brilliantly. He was excellent with the kids. He kept them all on task and made sure they all enjoyed the activity. Feedback from teachers was excellent.
