How it works

Rope in front, feet shoulder width apart. Left leg through the loop of the rope, left arm round the back of the head until it points out in front, step the right leg out, and repeat. Then do it with the right arm.

skip-hop tipThe arm pointing at the floor stays straight, down the middle of the body, touching the torso.

SEND and inclusion

Make it work for everyone

Ideas for pupils with SEND, and for anyone who finds rodeo hard. Change one thing at a time.

What usually makes it hard: Stepping through the loop while the arm goes round the head.

  • TaskPractise one step at a time with the rope still.
  • SpacePlenty of room around each skipper.
  • CommunicationA demonstration at half speed.

Seated or no-jump version. Swing the rope round the head with one arm, keeping it level and controlled.

An adapted pass is still a pass on the Skipping Awards. Use your own judgement and each pupil’s care plan. More in SEND and inclusion at skip-hop. Pupil struggling to get started? Try Lee’s tips for pupils who are struggling to skip.
