For class teachers

Skipping lessons you can teach tomorrow, even if you can’t skip

Every skip-hop lesson is planned for you, runs from the board, and builds towards a Skipping Award your class can see. You don’t need to be a PE specialist, and you don’t need to be able to skip.

  • “I’m not a PE specialist.”Every skill comes with teaching points, common faults and how to fix them, written for class teachers.
  • “There’s no time to plan.”Six lessons per unit, ready to go. Open the lesson on the board and the class follows the trainers and timers.
  • “Half the class gives up.”Each child works on their own next Award in small steps, so everyone has something they can get right today.

What skipping does for your class

Getting children moving is only the start. Here’s what the benefits of skipping mean for you.

Settled, ready to learnA few minutes of skipping wakes a class up. The Chief Medical Officers name better concentration and learning among the benefits of being active.
Counting, rhythm and rhymesPupils count every skip out loud, keep a beat and chant the rhymes, so maths and language come along for the ride.
Confidence and resilienceLearning a skill, getting it wrong, trying again and earning the certificate is a lesson in itself.
Working togetherPartner skipping and long rope games need timing, turn-taking and talking to each other.

What teachers said

Hi Lee, Just a quick message to say thank you so much for today! Every teacher had brilliant feedback and the children seemed to absolutely love it. Thank you for being so prompt and organised - I know it was a busy day. Hopefully we can work together again in the future.

Hi Lee. Just wanted to say a huge thank you to the “skipper” we had today, I didn’t get a chance to say thanks to him at the end of the day. The whole school had a fantastic day and enjoyed the skipping. The teachers also were very impressed at how good your coach was with the classes.

The Skipping Awards

Your class can see exactly what comes next. Teach the skills, tick them off on two different days, and print the certificates.

Questions class teachers ask

Do I need to be able to skip?

No. The lessons run from the board, and the coaching tells you what to look for and what to say. All-Access Skip Pass members also get video for every skill.

What do I need?

A rope for each pupil, sized for their key stage, and a hall, playground or cleared classroom. Long rope games need a strip about 8 metres long.

How do I know when a pupil has passed?

When they show the skill with control on two different days. Tick it on the class tracker and it tells you who has passed.
