For head teachers

A whole school that’s active, inspired and moving

skip-hop gives every class a skill to learn, a Skipping Award to aim for and teachers who feel confident teaching it. It keeps going year after year, long after one-off coaching would have left.

  • “The PE and sport premium has to leave something behind.”Confident staff, an Awards scheme pupils work through from Reception to Year 6, and ropes built to last.
  • “Inspectors will ask about personal development and inclusion.”Every pupil works on their own Award, including pupils with SEND, and every pass is recorded and celebrated.
  • “My staff have no spare time.”The lessons are planned, they run from the board, and passes are ticked off on a class tracker. One training day gets everyone started.

What skipping does for your school

Getting children moving is only the start. Here’s what the benefits of skipping mean for you.

Active minutes, without a timetable fightThe UK Chief Medical Officers advise children to average at least 60 active minutes a day, and the government’s School Sport and Activity Action Plan wants 30 of them in the school day. Skipping fits into PE, playtimes, clubs and five spare minutes in a classroom.
Children ready to learnThe Chief Medical Officers list better concentration and learning, confidence and social skills among the benefits of being active. A rope is one of the cheapest ways to get there.
Every child includedSkills progress in small steps, so beginners and confident skippers work side by side, each on their own Award. It’s not just for the school team.
Money that keeps workingTrain the staff once, buy the ropes once, and the Awards carry on from one year group to the next.

What head teachers said

WOW....skip-hop were fantastic, every member of staff made a note of thanking me for arranging the event and how brilliant skip-hop was. Your coach was in huge demand at lunchtime with the children, even the Ofsted inspector thought he was great and mentioned him to me! … we would certainly recommend your company to other schools.

No. Every lesson is written for class teachers, with teaching points and common faults for each skill. Teachers don’t need to be able to skip.
